Overview
NOTE: The Invest BC data is available at four different geographic levels: Community,
Regional District, Economic Region, and Province.
1. Community. Community profiles are based on local "Labour Market
Areas" that represent the local pool of labour available for a new business.
The Areas are defined based on actual commuting patterns from the 2006 Statistics
Canada Census. Each Labour Market Area includes a central municipality and may include
neighbouring municipalities and rural areas.
2. Regional District. The 28 Regional Districts in British Columbia
are administrative areas providing selected region-wide services. The closest American
equivalent is a county. They are also equivalent to Statistics Canada Census Divisions.
3. Economic Region. The 8 Economic Regions in British Columbia
(shown in the map) are statistical regions agreed by Statistics Canada and the Province
of British Columbia (which calls them Development Regions).
4. Province. Data is for the entire Province of British Columbia,
which is the 3rd most populated of Canada's 10 provinces and the 2nd largest
by land area. Provinces are similar to American states.
Not all data is available at all levels.

| Current Time in British Columbia |
| Most of British Columbia is on Pacific Standard Time, except for a small portion of the north east corner and the south east corner. These two ares are on Mountain Standard Time. |
| |
| Labour Market Areas are generally equivalent to Statistics Canada definitions for Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs), which have an urban core of at least 100,000 people, and Census Agglomerations (CAs), which have an urban core of at least 10,000 people. A similar definition was developed for smaller communities, provided the central community had a population of 4,000 or greater, or if the combined Labour Market Area exceeded 8,000 in total population. |

| Population estimates are provided by Invest BC for geographic areas that are not included in official BC Stats estimates. |

| Development cost charges are fees that municipalities choose to collect from new development to help pay the cost of off-site infrastructure services that are needed to accommodate growth. DCCs are usually applied only for residential developments with four or more units. Contact each municipality for specific details. |
| |
| Note that property tax rates are not directly comparable between municipalities due to differences in land values. Higher tax rates may be offset by lower land values, for example. |

| A small business has no more than $200,000 CDN in business income. |

| Values are based on the average property assesment in each muncipality, as determined by BC Assesment. Note that assesed property values are often less than market housing values. |
