Prince George
The TIRs travelled to Prince George to meet with Northern communities and learn more about the opportunities in the region. Initiatives Prince George, a local economic development agency, helped in bringing together economic development officers keen on showcasing the opportunities in their communities. The day consisted of presentations and discussions on investment projects throughout the Northern region of the province.
On their second day in Prince George, the TIRs were invited to meet with local businesses as well as Prince George city council members and the Mayor of Prince George, Dan Rogers, at a business breakfast. This was followed by a networking session allowing attendees to meet with the TIR’s individually.
The Prince George trip was capped off with site tours to three key locations highlighting innovation within the city. The TIRs were treated to a guided tour of the Pacific BioEnergy wood pellet plant, a world class pellet fuel processing facility. They then travelled to the University of Northern British Columbia’s bioenergy plant, which takes wood waste that is already being produced at a local sawmill and converts it to heat the University and reduce fossil fuel consumption. The TIRs also visited CN Rail Intermodal and Distribution Centre, an 84,000 square-foot facility which connects Prince George to key North American and Asian trade markets.
