British Columbia opens new trade office in Manila

May 30, 2016 Posted by

The Premier’s Trade mission capped off a productive visit to the Philippines by announcing the opening of a new trade and investment office in Manila.

The office located in the financial district of Manila, will provide an entryway for British Columbia companies into the growing Philippine market as well as other countries a part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN. The ASEAN economic region forms Asia’s third largest economy after China and Japan and is the fourth largest import market in the world, with 600 million people and a combined GDP of more than US$2.3 trillion.

The expansion of B.C.’s presence into the ASEAN region is part of the Province’s new Asia trade strategy Raising Our Game in Asia. The strategy recognizes the momentous opportunities for increased trade in Asia, and specifically, in the ASEAN region, which is home to five of the world’s 20 fastest growing economies – the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. B.C.’s competitive advantages in sectors such as Clean Technology, Agrifoods and Aerospace could greatly support and enhance ASEAN’s growth.

Along with the office opening, several British Columbia organizations and companies participating in the trade mission signed business agreements with Philippines-based organizations. Such as Vancouver-based Incognito Software, who signed a contract for the sale of software to a major Philippine telecommunication company and announced the ongoing setup of their new office in Manila.
