More than 75 British Columbia companies are travelling this week with Premier Christy Clark on a trade and investment mission to Korea, the Philippines and Japan, aimed at promoting B.C.’s thriving technology sectors and expanding markets for liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Businesses and organizations representing a wide variety of sectors, from international education and digital media, to LNG, clean technology and professional services, will be travelling on this mission to form partnerships and attract new trade and investment dollars to British Columbia.

Companies like PressReader, a B.C.-based technology firm that has been dubbed the “Netflix of Newspapers,” providing its users access to thousands of newspaper and magazine titles without having to register individually with each publication – or pay for content with individual titles.  The company is recognized as the largest newspaper and magazine platform in the world; it has more than 30 million users worldwide and reaches some 300 million people through their network of business partners.

During the trade and investment mission, PressReader will be participating at technology seminars in Seoul and Tokyo, where B.C. companies will be able to highlight their innovative programs and designs to international leaders in the technology sectors such as Samsung and Mitsui.

These seminars, along with several other events and meetings, are organized by Ministry of International Trade staff and the Trade and Investment Representatives (TIR’S) located within each market. Trade and Investment Representatives play an integral role in the development and execution of international missions by identifying investment leads and facilitating meetings with government stakeholders. They also work with B.C. businesses interested in expanding their international presence and assist international businesses in discovering what B.C. has to offer as an investment destination.
