Animal companionship is highly valued for both urban and rural lifestyles, where pets are commonly seen as family members. In Asia, the rapidly growing middle class is leading an incredible growth in the pet industry. This presents an export opportunity for British Columbia companies that specialize in premium pet products.

The Canadian federal government, in partnership with British Columbia and Alberta, is organizing a Canadian pavilion at the K-Pet Fair (Nov. 23-25, 2018), the largest pet food and product industry exhibition in South Korea. The British Columbia trade and investment representative office in Seoul will support participating B.C. companies, providing an overview of the Korean market and insights on how to do business in Korea, as well as setting up targeted business-to-business meetings during the fair. With over 40,000 participants in 2017, the show attracts local buyers and stakeholders, including importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, pet shop owners, veterinarians and e-commerce companies.

Participating B.C. companies:

Cranimals, from West Vancouver, makes vegan, food-grade cranberry supplements and antioxidants for dogs and cats to help manage the most common pet health issues, including bladder infections, bladder stones, incontinence, dog skin allergies and cat diabetes.

PawsitiveFX is a company in Pitt Meadows that creates plant-based products that nourish, soothe, moisturize, repair and rejuvenate pets’ skin. Their balms and waxes are used to heal dry and cracked paws and noses.

Vancouver-based NHV Natural Pet Products makes supplements and products with 100% natural ingredients that are free from additives and preservatives. The products are B.C. Certified Organic, Canada Organic and USDA Certified Organic. The supplements are used to treat a range of dog and cat maladies, including bacterial infections, arthritis and renal failure.

Ocean Gate Fishery Ltd. is a Richmond-based processor of fresh fish and seafood for human and animal consumption. Its 18,000 square feet facility processes a variety of tuna and salmon, as well as  cod and other rockfish.

Our office in Seoul has developed an extensive network in South Korea, and actively assists Korean and British Columbia businesses to explore shared opportunities. To learn more, follow us on Twitter and LinkedIn.
