About The Great National Land Building

An example of Classical Period Revival architecture and one of Nanaimo's most recognizable landmarks. The Great National Land Building was built by the Bank of Commerce in 1914, designed by their staff architect Victor Horsburgh. The three storey 6,300 sf building rehabilited in 1997 to its original condition is an important example of the type of bank architecture that predominated throughout Canada during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is listed on the city's heritage registry. A six storey 23,919 sf office tower was added in 1977.
