British Columbia’s Mythical City Games Partners with Hypereal VR in China

British Columbia’s Mythical City Games Partners with Hypereal VR in China

Virtual reality, altered reality and video gaming are big business in British Columbia, and local companies have been attracting partnerships and investment from compatible international enterprises. It’s easy for businesses here to collaborate with Asian businesses because of frequent direct flights, a geographic location that permits overlapping work hours and support from government organizations.

Mythical City Games, an independent game studio based in Vancouver, recently began to explore the Asia market and received assistance from British Columbia’s Trade and Investment Representatives in Shanghai. The Trade Representatives briefed Mythical City on China's VR gaming industry landscape and introduced them to various Chinese gaming companies, including Hypereal VR, a leading Chinese VR/AR technology company. They also invited Mythical City to attend ChinaJoy, the largest and the most influential games and digital media conference in China. While at that event, Mythical City announced their collaboration with Hypereal VR.

Mythical City Games creates virtual reality, desktop and mobile games. Working closely with Valve, HTC, Oculus and Sony, Mythical City Games has developed broad expertise in VR design and production. They produce games for Steam, iOS and Mac app stores, as well as Microsoft and GameStop physical storefronts across North America. The distribution agreement with Hypereal VR allowed Hypereal to distribute Snow Fortress, one of Mythical city's virtual reality games, and the two partners shared the revenue generated during their partnership.

Mythical City used some of the revenue accrued from the deal with Hypereal to hire an additional local B.C. programmer to the team for 2017. They are confident that these ties may lead to other business opportunities down the road as well.

Provincial Trade and Investment Representatives facilitated the introductions and communications between all three companies.
