B.C. Presents Leading-Edge Innovation at Tech Expo

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is a leading annual expo for the mobile communications industry. This global event brings together industry leaders, policymakers and tech innovators to explore the latest advancements in mobile technology and connectivity. MWC serves as a hub for unveiling groundbreaking technologies, products and industry trends. This year alone, the event welcomed over 109,000 attendees from 205 countries and hosted more than 2,900 exhibitors, sponsors and partners, underscoring its scale and global impact. This year’s flagship event, MWC 2025 Barcelona, highlighted cutting-edge developments in areas such as 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) and digital transformation.

MWC is a vital hub for the mobile industry, driving advancement and shaping the future of communication. For over a decade, British Columbia (B.C.) companies, led by Trade and Invest BC, have participated annually. As a world-leading trade show and business matching platform for the mobile and wired communications sectors, MWC aligns seamlessly with B.C.’s strengths in telecom technology. In recent years, it has become one of the most influential tech events, drawing global tech buyers and investors from B.C.’s priority markets. This event provides B.C. companies with prospects to enter new markets and diversify traditional ones.

For MWC 2025, Trade and Invest BC secured booth space within Global Affairs Canada’s (GAC) Canadian Pavilion, collaborating with Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. The 39 square-meter exhibit allowed B.C. companies to showcase materials, logos and conduct meetings in a dedicated private room, which was highly valued. Trade and Invest BC staff and B.C. Trade and Invest Representatives (TIRs) from Europe attended in person, facilitating business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking meetings with key decision makers at the booth. These meetings, arranged by B.C. TIRs and GAC regional officers, enabled over 25 B.C. companies to connect with global industry leaders. Each participating B.C. company had more than 20 scheduled meetings throughout the event.

A standout feature of this year’s MWC was STELLA, an interactive robot dog designed and built in B.C. STELLA captivated attendees, sparking curiosity and creating memorable experiences. With a specialized soccer mode, STELLA engaged with a regulation-sized training soccer ball, effectively promoting B.C. as a host for select matches in the FIFA World Cup 26™.

Beyond the exhibition floor, Trade and Invest BC played a pivotal role in supporting B.C. businesses at Canada’s Global Export Café, a platform enabling Canadian companies to interact with Trade Commissioners from around the world. Additionally, Trade and Invest BC supported the Canada Reception, hosted by Calgary Economic Development, Investment Quebec, and the Provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec, fostering valuable networking opportunities.

MWC 2025 served as a global stage for B.C.’s tech talent, showcasing the region’s spirit of collaboration, innovation and growth. With a highly skilled workforce, competitive tax rates, a business-friendly time zone and a highly entrepreneurial and multicultural tech community, B.C. continues to be one of North America’s fastest-growing tech ecosystems.
