Located in central B.C., the Cariboo region is an area of vast landscapes and outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities. These include fishing, boating, hiking and biking in the summer months and skiing and snowmobiling in the winter.

In the 1860s, the Cariboo was the centre of the gold rush, which brought prospectors from across North America eager to make their fortune by finding new gold deposits. Other entrepreneurs soon moved to the area to service the growing boomtowns. Today, resource-based industries such as mining and forestry continue to play a strong role in the area's economy.

The B.C. government forecasts an annual employment growth rate of 0.4 per cent in the Cariboo region to 2022. It is expected that there will be 30,300 job openings to 2022. The top employment growth industry is Construction.
