Investing in BC's Nechako Region

Overview

The second-largest region in the province, Nechako is also the least populated. It is an area of vast and remote wilderness that includes mountains, glaciers, valleys and plateaus. This makes it popular with outdoor enthusiasts and those who enjoy rural living.

This region extends from the centre of the province up to the Yukon border and is separated from the Northeast region by the Rocky Mountains. There are several towns in the southern end of this region, while the northern end, the Stikine area, is very sparsely populated.

Natural resources, particularly mining and forestry, have always played a critical role in the area's economy. Many companies are actively exploring for minerals in the area.

The B.C. government forecasts an annual employment growth rate of 1.5 percent in the Nechako and North Coast regions to 2022. It is expected that there will be 20,100 job openings over the 10-year period. The top employment growth industry is Construction.
