Kindergarten to Grade 12 Options

In British Columbia children between the ages of five and 18 attend Kindergarten to Grade 12 programs at an elementary or secondary school depending on their grade level. Parents can choose to enrol their child in either a public or independent school that offers these programs - there are approximately 350 independent schools and about 1600 public schools in British Columbia. Students who graduate from secondary school in British Columbia at the end of Grade 12 receive a British Columbia Certificate of Graduation (or Dogwood Diploma). This credential is recognized internationally and accepted by post-secondary institutions worldwide. Many schools provide support services for students whose first language is not English. There are short- and long-term program options, and many school districts also offer a homestay programs.

 

Post-Secondary Education Options

British Columbia’s post-secondary institutions offer everything from short-term courses to degree programs in a wide variety of professional and academic areas, from health, business, and engineering to the arts and social sciences. These include:
  • Undergraduate bachelor’s degree programs
  • Graduate programs at the Masters and PhD level
  • Trades and vocational programs
  • Career and technical programs
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) programs

Offshore Options

British Columbia’s Offshore School Programs offer students in other countries the opportunity to study the British Columbia curriculum in English, in schools inspected and certified by the British Columbia Ministry of Education. Those who complete the British Columbia Graduate Program receive British Columbia’s internationally-recognized certificate of graduation, the Dogwood Diploma.
