Natural Gas

British Columbia has the abundant natural gas resources that your business needs. Explore British Columbia's natural gas sector and learn about importing natural gas, LNG and world-class expertise and services from Canada.

Natural Gas – British Columbia shale and other fine-grained sedimentary rocks hold vast amounts of high-quality natural gas. Two of North America’s most promising natural gas plays – the Montney and Horn River – are located in British Columbia. Together, it is estimated that they may contain over 900 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) – Converted into its shippable form of liquefied natural gas, this abundant British Columbia resource is easily transportable around the world.

British Columbia’s robust service industry includes the largest concentration of exploration companies and geoscience professionals in the world. Our centres of excellence spearhead leading research in exploration and development that feeds our network of highly regarded geologists. British Columbia's total natural gas supply is estimated at 2,933 trillion cubic feet, with current production of about 4 billion cubic feet of natural gas each day – 1.4 trillion cubic feet annually. From 2009 to 2010, we experienced a 42 per cent increase in year-end natural gas reserves, continuing a 10-year trend of increases. By 2020, British Columbia’s natural gas production is expected to reach three trillion cubic feet per year.

With our abundant resources and investments in LNG infrastructure, British Columbia natural gas is a reliable choice.
