The company’s international success is rooted in its commitment to enhance the customer experience by looking for ways to make their customers’ work easier, safer and more efficient and productive. With the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) and access to real time data, Finning has also become a digital leader in its industry.
The heavy equipment dealer sells, rents and provides parts and services for equipment and engines across diverse industries, including mining, construction, petroleum and forestry. Now Finning also provides digital offerings, called Performance Solutions, focused on helping its customers increase production, control costs, and improve operator performance and safety. It does this through technology-based solutions such as remote tracking, monitoring services, app-based inspections and data-analytics. Today, almost 70% of Finning’s machines are connected to a combination of smart hardware and software to maximize equipment use for customers.
Finning also employs a variety of digital solutions to improve job site productivity through the use of automated machine control, aerial drone-based surveying and driverless haul trucks. The company puts a large focus on keeping its people safe and invests in camera and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies that monitor for fatigue and distraction and help prevent collisions. With the adoption of Performance Solutions, Finning customers have reported a 23% increase in production efficiency and a 74% reduction in safety-related incidents. Through the use of these technologies, one British Columbia-based construction customer was able to double its revenue while increasing its costs by only 25%.
Finning was able to extend its business into the digital space by tapping into British Columbia’s thriving digital ecosystem. British Columbia is home to a progressive and dynamic technology industry with expertise spanning multiple clusters — from enterprise level solutions, IoT and mobile technologies, cloud computing, big data and machine learning to e-commerce and fast growing fintech and security clusters. Represented by young, diverse and energetic talent, B.C. also has a large and educated workforce across the tech ecosystem.
Finning has 15,000 employees working across Western Canada, South America (Chile, Argentina, Bolivia), the United Kingdom and Ireland. Finning works hard to gain customers’ trust through focusing on reliability, resourcefulness and growing digital expertise. By conveying a genuine commitment to earn customer loyalty and leveraging digital technology innovations, Finning continues to work towards transforming its customers’ experience and differentiating itself from others in the industry.
