B.C.’s Pelesys will provide aviation training to China

A leading aviation training company based in Vancouver, British Columbia, has formed a partnership with the largest transport airline in mainland China to provide training to aircraft maintenance staff in China. The agreement between Pelesys Learning Systems Inc. (Pelesys) and China Southern Airlines Company Ltd. (China Southern) will establish an airline maintenance training centre in Guangzhou, China.

Pelesys is a training solutions provider in British Columbia’s renowned aerospace sector. Under the agreement, the company will supply staff from its existing maintenance instructors, who are certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and experienced in transport maintenance and training. Pelesys will also provide its training management and deployment system (TMDS), a “software as a service” platform that China Southern will use to develop its own EASA certified maintenance training courses. Pelesys China, the Chinese branch of the B.C. company, will provide the financial investment.

Both parties will use each other’s training resources and expertise to expand their business and future capacity. The demand for aviation maintenance training in China is potentially huge. As China opens up its low-altitude airspace, it is expected that the aviation industry could require training for one million pilots and three million aviation maintenance engineers in the next 10 years.

The signing of the agreement was witnessed by B.C.’s Premier Christy Clark during her trade mission to China in November 2015. Trade missions such as this introduce B.C. businesses to international markets and key contacts.

For example, the British Columbia Ministry of International Trade’s representatives in Guangzhou and B.C. assisted Pelesys with market advice, industry contacts and participation at promotional events in China.
