In 2017, Daitan began searching for a Canadian office location, choosing Victoria due to its proximity to the U.S., high quality of life, strong technology sector and excellent post-secondary institutions.
Provincial trade and investment staff worked collaboratively with the South Island Prosperity Partnership to ensure that Daitan had all the local and provincial connections they needed to get their facilities up and running quickly. The company is beginning operations in Victoria with 11 employees and is actively recruiting for additional positions now, with plans to grow to over 100 people in the next few years.
CBRE Canada ranks Victoria among the top cities for Canadian technology talent and the 2018 Scoring Canadian Tech Talent Report ranked Victoria 10th. The report ranks Canadian cities according to their competitive advantages and appeal to workers and technology employers. VIATEC’s Economic Impact of the Technology Sector in Greater Victoria study also highlighted that the technology sector in Greater Victoria experienced significant growth over the past decade, with industry revenues increasing fourfold from $1 billion in 2004 to $4 billion in 2017. The tech sector in Greater Victoria also employs 16,775 people and has a total economic impact of $5 billion - a 30% increase from 2013.
