A local British Columbia company, Eventbase, has received two global awards recognizing its innovation in event technology.

Event apps like Eventbase’s are no longer just about accessing a schedule of seminars and meetings. By integrating technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR) and beacons, Eventbase creates highly personalized and engaging experiences for event-goers. For example, beacons allow devices to detect their proximity to one another and trigger location-specific content such as session check-ins, interactive maps and personalized messages and rewards.

Founded in 2009, Eventbase pioneered the “Intelligent Event App” with technologies that support clients’ brand and corporate goals, while delivering engaging, personalized experiences for event attendees. Eventbase has supported events for companies such as IBM, Cisco, Microsoft, SAP, Century 21, ESPN and TD Ameritrade. It has also provided official apps for many of the largest events on earth including South by Southwest (SXSW), CES, Comic-Con, Sundance and three Olympic Games.

At the Event Tech Live conference in London, Eventbase received the award for “Best Event App,” based on its work on the official SXSW GO 2018 App. Supported by Eventbase since 2010, this app is a must have for attendees at SXSW, which takes place in Texas every March. Each year, Eventbase works on new features to further enhance attendee experiences and maximize their time at this large event.

Eventbase also won silver in the “Best Event App” category at the Experience and Design Awards at the EVENTtech conference in Las Vegas. This is Eventbase’s fifth win at this annual event, with three golds and two silvers. Eventbase won this year’s award for its work on the Cisco Live event app used at Cisco Live in Orlando in June 2018. Using wearable beacons, Cisco Live placed a beacon in each attendee badge to collect attendee behavior data and used this to power personalized session recommendations available within the event app. With the app, attendees could provide feedback using a ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ response to fine-tune recommendations and see the most relevant suggestions.

In February 2018, Eventbase joined the Trade and Invest BC delegation of 28 British Columbia companies attending Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. MWC is the world’s largest wireless telecommunication tradeshow and has become a proven platform for business development. Trade and Invest BC supported companies by facilitating meetings and providing a booth presence. As a result of attending MWC, Eventbase won a contract with the GSMA to create an app for use at three GSMA events; MWC 2019, MWC USA 2019 and MWC Asia 2019. Trade and Invest BC continues to work closely with Eventbase on MWC 2019, where the company will launch its new app.
